Discovering the territory:
URBANIA: The town of Urbania, situated 10 minutes from Peglio, is surrounded from the Metauro river on three sides and it is characterized by its porch streets, its historic palaces and numerous churches that maintain inside authentic masterpieces. For three times changed the name passing, after the destruction of the Ghibellini and the following rebuilding, from the first name of “Castel delle Ripe” to “Casteldurante”, up to the current denomination. The name that had been beloved by its citizens is Casteldurante, that made the town famous in the world for its majolica artistic quality, today exposed in the most world prestigious museums. Urbania was the Montefeltro family preferred summer residency, that used to stay in the ancient ducal palace and in the massive renaissance building known as “Barco Ducale”, both realized by the great architects of the epoch Francesco di Giorgio Martini and Girolamo Genga. Other important places to visit are the “Museo Civico” and the “Museo Diocesano”, the library, the “Palazzo Vescovile and Palazzo Comunale”, the Bramante theatre and the suggestive “Chiesa dei Morti” that conserves natural mummies perfectly intact with the original clothes.
Finally Urbania is the official city of “Befana”, the old woman that uses to bring kids candies or coal, and in the town has is house. In January the city dedicates to her a great event, becoming the land of toys and happiness for adults and children, with games, performances of musical groups, buskers, street markets with typical local products and dishes.
