PEGLIO: Peglio hamlet is situated on a chalk rock and on the highest point of the drop still maintains the medieval tower, visible from long distance, which shows on the peak an ancient bell with Gothic engravings.
The ancient name “ Castrum Pilei” reveals the Roman origins of the village evolved with a medieval plan, which is characterized by tight and paved tiny streets, in strategic and panoramic position on the valley. Peglio have became famous since the Longobardi time, which footprints are today visible inside the “Cripta” of the church of San Fortunato”, one of the most ancient parishes of Urbino diocese, in which is conserved a bright Via Crucis created with pottery tiles dated back to XVIII century and created by F.M.
